Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a sophisticated therapeutic system of medicine based on the Law of Simalars which states that "like cures like". This means that a substance administered in large doses to a healthy animal will produce specific symptoms, but when this same material is administered in minute doses, it will stimulate the body to fight off the symptoms. Over two hundred years of experimentation has documented the profound effects of this type of medication on humans and animals. Homeopathic remedies are potentized natural substances made from vegetable, animal or mineral sources and act to stimulate the natural defenses of the body. The patient's own defenses, properly stimulated, are usually sufficient to bring the patient back into balance, thus eliminating the disease. The remedies are used to stimulate the whole patient to heal, not alter the body chemistry as with conventional medicines. These remedies rarely produce side effects.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a drugless method of health care that deals with the nervous system housed inside the spinal column. It maintains that adequate nerve supply is vital to the proper functioning of the entire body. When the vertebral bones are misaligned, they affect the nerves and the flow of nervous energy. A chiropractic adjustment aims to correct the misalignments and restore nervous system function. The adjustment is a hands-on technique that applies touch, pressure and shallow thrust-like manipulations to the spine and joints. Chiropractic works to eliminate the cause of the problem and not just simply treat the symptoms. A misalignment is caused by traumas such as slips, falls, automobile accidents and blows. Drugs and stress are other causes of misalignments. As animals age, stresses naturally accumulate in their spine. Any animal that has a spine is potentially a chiropractic patient. Our clinic sees many diverse problems responding to chiropractic care: lameness, neck and back pain, contracted tendons, epilepsy, older animals with stiffness and arthritic pain, house soiling and many other diseases.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years. It is a traditional Chinese medical practice and a drugless method of health care that treats a broad range of illness and pain. When an animal is healthy, there is a free circulation of energy, "chi", that travels throughout the body along channels known as meridians. Acupuncture points are specific zones along these meridians, and the centre of each zone is considered to be the area of greatest activity of the "chi" or life force energy. Illness is described as a blockage or an imbalance of a meridian disrupting the overall health and disturbing normal functions. The illness is treated by stimulating the acupuncture points with the use of thin needles. This manipulates the channels of energy back into balance and begins the process of the body resuming normal health.

Laser Therapy

A Laser is an amplification of light caused by a stimulated emission of radiation. It is produced by photo stimulation of a laser medium such as helium neon argon or ruby or by directed electrical loading of a solid state diode. Laser therapy is used to reduce inflammation and to increase immune response for tissue regeneration and pain relief. This is a safe, harmless yet effective treatment for skin, bone and joint problems, and is also used for acupuncture therapy. Laser light appears to stimulate acupuncture points like a needle does. It is most useful on the acupuncture points that are too sensitive to needles. Laser therapy employs a "soft" laser beam to produce biological stimulation of tissue.

Basic Nutrition

Proper nutrition is of utmost importance in maintaining health and treating illness. The type of basic nutrition will be determined on an individual basis based on a variety of factors. Careful consideration is necessary with regard to your pet's diet. Each pet has its own characteristics, likes and dislikes and digestive system peculiarities and sensitivities. A complete and balanced diet including protein, fat, vitamins and minerals are necessary for proper growth and disease resistance. In general, we encourage as natural a feeding program as possible.

Herbal Medicine

The use of specific herbs and plants for medicinal purposes has been practiced for millions of years. Herbal medicine includes North American herbs, Aryuvedic herbs from India, traditional Chinese herbs, and other botanicals from all over the world. Herbs have healing powers that are capable of balancing the emotional, mental and physical dimensions of animals.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine dates back to over 3000 years ago. It views the body as an energy system in which various substances interact with each other to create the physical organism. The body is viewed in terms of Yin and Yang aspects (the dark and bright sides). The healthy state is characterized by a dynamic balance between these aspects; an unhealthy state is characterized by an imbalance. Each imbalance ultimately arises from an animal's way of life, in other words an animal's relationship with the universe itself. Balance is restored by combining appropriate herbs, diet, and medicinal practices along with changes in the animal's way of living.

Reiki

Reiki, a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life-Force-Energy", was discovered by Dr. Usui, in the late 1800's. It is the process of channeling intensified life force energy through the hands onto the body by way of the body's energy centres. This life force energy can promote healing on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Reiki has the potential to relieve pain and speed the healing process while working to maintain a balance within the body.

Tellington Touch

This technique developed by Linda Tellington-Jones in 1983 is a "hands-on" method based on circular movements of the fingers and hands over an animal's body. Activation of the function of the cells helps speed up the healing of injuries or ailments or changing undesirable habits or behaviour.

Hair Tissue Analysis
Hair permanently records past events of a pet's mineral and metal status. As hair grows, it takes protein from the blood and in the process concentrates nutrient and toxic elements into the hair shaft. Research indicates that many elements in the hair reflect mineral stores better than any other medium. Hair Tissue Analysis measures toxic metal build-up, the pet's emotional state and nutritional status. It is also an indicator of chronic diseases and a diagnostic tool for assessing degrees of patient wellness. There are twenty nutritional minerals and nine toxic metals routinely analyzed.

Bach Flower Therapy

Bach Flower Remedies were developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930's. Each of the 38 remedies is relative to a specific state of mind and taken from a different non-poisonous flower. Bach Flower remedies are used as a natural method of establishing emotional balance in animals. Animals are known to have feelings such as fear and loneliness; they can experience stress and react to changes in their environment. These remedies can be used in animals for problems such as hiding, motion sickness, adjustment to a new home, or other difficulties.

Therapeutic Nutrition

Supplemental minerals, vitamins and nutrients help to correct deficiencies, prevent pathology and reverse tissue damage. Supplements are prescribed that support the organs and body tissues, aid body detoxification and give energy to assist in the healing process.

Computerized Electro-Dermal Screening (CEDS)
CEDS measures the electrical resistance of the body's organs and tissues by applying a low-level electrical stimulus to acupuncture points. It is a method of energetically determining sensitivities and imbalances. Information regarding the foundation of a pet's health is provided and a protocol for improvement is developed.

CEDS can be used to screen

The function of all the body's systems and organs
Organ stress and toxicity
Sensitivities to certain foods
Which nutritional or homeopathic remedy and the exact potency that will bring about an energy balance
Sensitivity or a weakness to heavy metals, toxic products and pollutants, such as pesticides and herbicides
Potential mineral deficiencies
